Fritz E. Schottlander, of Melrose, NM, passed away October 22, 2010 at the Veteran Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. Fritz was born in Electra, TX, the younger of two children, to the home of David and Ruby Schottlander on February 1, 1928. He married Bettie Jo Woolley in November 1999 in Clayton, NM.
Fritz, after completing high school, served his country in WWII, returning to spend most of his life as a professional horse trainer, most notably involved in the training of Bill Cody, Top Quarter Horse in 1949 and 1950. Fritz was a proud Texas Ranger in the late 1950s, stationed out of Amarillo. He also ranched, shod horses and did leather work.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Bettie Jo, of the home and three children.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the Melrose First United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m.
