George Jester

George Cole Buck Jester

Buck Jester was born on April 30, 1917 in Marlow, Oklahoma at home. He went home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2012. He lived 94 years, 9 months and 18 days. He was the tenth of twelve children born to George Wilks Booth Jester and Clarinda Melissa Lanning Jester.

Buck married Viola Mae Polly Reid of Ranchvale on September 2, 1939. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in September of last year. Buck served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the Horse Calvary at Ft. Reilly, Kansas. After returning to Clovis, he went to work at El Rancho Milling Company where he was the milling superintendent for thirtythree years. He then worked for ten years for the Clovis school system. Buck was a lifetime member of Forrest Heights Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for over forty years.

Buck is survived by his wife, Polly and four children and their families: Janice and Leroy Gossett of Temple, Texas Melvin and Virginia Jester of Victoria, Texas James and Linda Jester of Amarillo, Texas and Sharon and Ron Cole of Newnan, Georgia. Buck is also survived by eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Two of those nieces live here in Clovis: Jo Bunch, wife of Cecil Bunch, and her sister, June Ellison. One nephew also lives in Clovis: Jim Horton. Buck is survived by one sisterinlaw, Lola Starbuck of Clovis, New Mexico and his younger brother Arthur Jester of Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Dora Dodson, Dovie Collins, Daisy Horton, Dollie Tate, Dicie Daniels, Violet Keely and Dessie Billard and his brothers: Randolph Jester, Monroe Jester, and one brother who died as an infant.

Bucks family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 6:00p.m. 8:00 p.m. at SteedTodd Funeral Home, 800 E. Manana Blvd., Clovis, New Mexico.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at SteedTodd Funeral Home Chapel with Melvin Jester officiating and Garlan Hughes assisting. Music sung by Haly Cordell. Interment will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

Casket Bearers are Shaun Jester, Douglas Gossett, Cole Cordell and Ryan Cordell. Honorary Casket Bearers are Oscar Starbuck, Wayne Reid, Leroy Gossett, Ron Cole, Steven Cole, Charlie Weldon, Don Reid and Russell Prickett.

Memorial Contributions can be made to Forrest Heights Baptist Church, 1711 S. Prince, Clovis, New Mexico or to a charity of your choice.
