George Andrew Mendez, 90, of Clovis, NM, passed away on April 16, 2015 in Clovis.
Visitation will be held at Steed-Todd Funeral Home on Saturday, April 18, 9 am to 5 pm; Sunday, April 19, noon to 5 pm.
A rosary service will be held at 6 pm, Sunday, April 19, at Sacred Heart Church. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20, at 1 pm at Sacred Heart Church with Father Rick officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories.
George is preceded in death by his father and mother, Rito and Carolina Mendez, brothers Frederico, Theodore, Salomon, Alfonso, and Albert.
He is survived by his wife of 84 years, Josefa (Zamora); his son, George (Nadine) Mendez; his daughter, Lorie (Scott) Bradley; his daughter, Lisa (Jim) MacDonald; his daughter, Sandra (Rick) Ruliffson; his niece, Elvia Sanchez; his grandchildren, Paul Ruliffson, Melissa Christ (Mendez), Sarah Ruliffson, Matthew Mendez, Christopher Mendez, Connor MacDonald, Michael MacDonald, Nicholas MacDonald and many nieces and nephews.
George was born and raised in Clovis on August 18, 1924, the son of Rito and Carolina (Gallegos) Mendez, and was a lifelong resident of Clovis. He married Josefa on November 4, 1961 in Clovis.
George was a gentle, loving husband and father. He lived his life for his children providing lifelong guidance in a positive influential way.
He worked a short time for BNSF Railroad, then retired as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service after 30 years. He also served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Pallbearers will be George Mendez, Scott Bradley, Ron Davis, Dominique Chairez, Keidan Weibert, and Allen Ray Hicks Sr.
The family of George Mendez wishes to extend their sincere thanks to PRMC Hospice and nurses Mila Garcia, Debbie Vistine, and social worker Nicole Holguin. Also PRMC, the medical floor staff and nurse Kristen Maynard. Final thanks to Dr. Willmon and Father Rick of Sacred Heart Church.
Special thanks to our Aunt Guadalupe Zamora who was of tremendous support to George, Josefa and his family in his final days.
