George R. Doerr age 91 of Clovis, New Mexico died August 5, 2007 at Fairhaven Assisted Living in Clovis. He was born June 11, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois to George and Emily Douglass Doerr. He married Emilie Bach May 4, 1946. They came to Clovis in 1966 after being stationed at Cannon Air Force Base. He served in WWII where he was held as a prisoner of war in Germany, and also served in the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Colonel and retired as the Base Commander at Cannon Air Force Base. After his military career he worked at Midwest Video Cable Co. during the 1970s.
He founded the Daedalians branch at Cannon Air Force Base, was a member of the Clovis Noon Day Lions for many years and enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include two sons Robert Doerr and his wife Leigh of San Antonio, Texas, Stephen Doerr and his wife Terri of Portales, New Mexico, three daughters Susan Caso of Long Beach, California, Sandra Romhild of Clovis, New Mexico and Barbara Brian and husband Randy of Clovis. One brother Ben Doerr and wife Joan of St. Augustine, Florida, ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and one sister.
Graveside services will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m followed by Full Military Honors.
