George Wiley Wheeler Jr, age 97, passed away on Thursday October 23rd in Clovis NM. He was born April 17, 1917 to George Wiley Wheeler and Iva Edwards in Honey Grove TX.
When George was a child he and his parents settled in the Texas panhandle from north TX. They traveled with the family in a covered wagon. In 1934 he moved to the Clovis area and began to farm here, Texico, Friona and Perryton. He was the owner operator of Wheat Heart Conaco in Perryton TX, and an independent Dr. Pepper distributor. He married Irene Raper Wheeler in Wellington TX in May 1946.
He was ordained at West Camp Baptist Church and moved to Decatur TX to attend Decatur Baptist Church.
He is survived by four sons: J.C. WheelerJohnson and wife Sandra of Evart Mi, G.W. Wheeler 3rd of Clovis NM, Steve Ray Wheeler and his wife Hazel of Guthrie OK, Jerry Lee Wheeler and his wife Mary Beth of Pueblo West CO One daughter Jo Ann Gilley and her husband Lloyd of Ropesville TX 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 8 greatgreat grandchildren and one sister Annie Russell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death are his parents, three brothers Billy Wheeler, Jake Wheeler, and Johnny Wheeler and two sisters Susie Harrison and Pauline Thompson.
Pallbearers are: Tim Gilley, Jeff Norton, Stephen Wheeler, Mike Wilson, Kent Wilson, and Jade Tafoya.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday October 27th at 1:00pm in the Steed Todd chapel with burial on Tuesday October 28th at 10:00am at Sunset Terrace in Farwell TX. You can leave your condolences online at Steedtodd.com.
