Longtime Tucumcari resident, Geraldyne Geri Johnson, 70, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2012, after a long illness.

Geri was born in Magdalena, NM on June 2, 1941 to Ray and Margery McKinley, the fourth of seven children. She grew up in Pie Town, NM and attended the Pie Town and Quemado schools. Geri graduated from Quemado High School in 1958.

Geri married James T. Johnson on April 16, 1959 in Santa Rosa. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2009.

She was employed by the Mountain Bell Telephone Company, Weiland Oil Company, and also was a bookkeeper for her husbands businesses. She and James owned the Montgomery Ward catalog store in Tucumcari, and the Catalina Market in Tucson, AZ. Upon returning to Tucumcari, Geri worked at the Sears catalog store and later, McFarland Brothers Bank. Geri was employed at Everyones Federal Credit Union as a bank teller until her retirement in 2006.

Geri loved her husband, taking care of her family, talking and working with people, and attending church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son Jim Johnson Emily, daughter Debbie Johnson, stepson Ralph Johnson Gayle, grandchildren Tiffany Johnson, Ray Johnson Jamie, Daniel Nieto Anna, Sabrina Johnson Hollar Harmon, and Michelle Johnson, greatgrandchildren Ray Anthony Garcia, Haddasah Garcia, Faith Johnson, Brianna Molinas, George Molinas, Daniel Nieto Jr., Aniyah Nieto, Kinley Miller, Maddox Miller, and Dylan Grant Miller, brothers Bobby McKinley Coy, Frankie McKinley Susie, Will McKinley, sister Lola McWhorter, cousin Don McKinley Martha, and many nieces and nephews.

Geri was preceded in death by her husband James Johnson, her parents Ray and Margery McKinley, her sister Exlee Theiss, and brother Johnny McKinley.

Services for Geri Johnson are scheduled for 10:00 am on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Dunn Funeral Home in Tucumcari. Officiant will be Pastor Wes Stewart of Temple Baptist Church. Cremation has taken place.
