Gerry Johnson

Gerry L. Johnson, 82, died peacefully in the hospital surrounded by her loving family on December 31, 2014 after a short illness.
Gerry was born on August 4, 1932 in Wellington, Kansas, one of three daughters born to Helen and Roy Swearingen. She moved to Clovis, New Mexico when she was 9 years old, when her father was transferred there with the railroad. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1950.
In 1949 she began a yearlong courtship with Robert (Bob) Johnson marrying him on December 30, 1950. They spent 63 loving years together. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Steve, Robert and Renee. In 1968 they moved the family to Tucumcari, New Mexico where they finished raising their children. Gerry spent her time as a homemaker, teaching Bible classes and involved in various church activities. She was also very active in her children's lives helping with various school activities including cooking for bake sales, raising money for the bands and chaperoning many a band trip. In 1976 she and Bob bought Crossroads Western Wear which they owned for 14 years.
They liquidated the Crossroads in 1990 and moved back to Clovis to enjoy retirement. Fully embracing their retirement they joined the Good Sam's Club in 1984 and traveled extensively throughout the United Sates. They visited many national parks, Alaska and Hawaii, and took a special trip to see the fall colors in the eastern United Sates. Gerry enjoyed cooking, crafts, camping and spending time with her family.
In 2011 she and Bob moved to Billings, Montana because of failing health. They became residents of Grand Park Assisted Living where they made many wonderful friends. The family would like to thank the staff there for the extraordinary care they have given her for the last three years.
Gerry was preceded in death by her two sisters Charlene Shire, and Geane Modersohn, and her husband Robert (Bob) Johnson. She is survived by her children Steve (Rebecca) Johnson of El Paso, TX, Robert (Paula) Johnson of Las Cruces, NM, Renee (Mike) Monday of Billings, MT, nine grandchildren Christen (Brandon) Ramsey of Amarillo, TX, Jared Johnson of San Antonio, TX, Joel Johnson of Las Cruces, NM, Michael Johnson of Arlington, TX, Kaitlin (Clint) Winburn of Billings, MT, Karly and Kaleb Monday of Billings, MT, Micaela and Mackenzie Landa of El Paso, TX and one great grandchild Myla Monroe Ramsey of Amarillo, TX.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00PM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 21st Street Church of Christ in Clovis, NM with Ken Cable officiating. Gerry will be laid to rest at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, New Mexico.
