Gilbert Kaltwasser, age 84, of Farwell, Texas, died Friday, February 11, 2011 at Farwell Convalescent Center. He was born on September 25, 1926 to John and Bertha Haseloff Kaltwasser in Vernon, Texas.
Gilbert married Elizabeth Liz Kramer on September 17, 1950 in Clovis, NM. Together, they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Gilbert was a lifetime farmer, and enjoyed hunting and RVing with the Good Sam Club. He was the Past President of the Parmer County Farm Bureau and Farwell School Board. He was a very active member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving in all offices. Gilbert was named an FFA Honorary Farmer and Agriculturist of the Year. He was proud to give each of his children their high school diplomas.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of the home one daughter, Cheryl Dale McCleskey of Mt. Juliet, TN three sons, Steven Carla Kaltwasser of Farwell, TX, Rev. Bruce Barbara Kaltwasser of Osage, IA, and Craig Kelley Kaltwasser of Amarillo, TX ten grandchildren eight greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents two brothers, Walter Kaltwasser and Rev. Aurelius Kaltwasser and one sister, Lillymae Murphy.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 CST at St. John Lutheran Church in Lariat, TX, with David Symm officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell, TX. Casket bearers will be Gilberts grandsons, Jason McCleskey, Jared Kaltwasser, Daniel Kaltwasser and Seth Kaltwasser. Honorary casket bearers will be Gilberts coffee buddies.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Life in Christ Academy or the Lutheran Brialle Workers, both in care of St. John Lutheran Church in Lariat, TX.
