Gilbert Phillip Sanchez passed from this life on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at his home in Clovis, New Mexico.
Gilbert was born on July 28, 1955 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. One of Gilberts most enduring traits was his persistence in pursuing his goals, including survival from placement in the Villa Solano Training School and the Los Lunas Institution.
Gilbert moved to Clovis in April 1988 to be served by ENMRSH and start a new life. He was joined by his lifelong friend, Henry Paul Chavez.
Gilbert had many things he treasured and was devoted to: his Lady Love, Dorothy, who he had to leave behind in Albuquerque, but he continued his faithful communication even during his medical challenges his job at the CAFB Pecos Dining Hall which he worked since August 1997 to up until a month before his death his family and friends in which he maintained a constant paper blog of letters and cards of how he was doing and inquiries of how others were also doing at Christmas he was known to send out over 50 cards Special Olympics in which he carried this love from his life in Albuquerque and made known that his commitment to his job had to be reciprocated with time off for Special Olympics he did especially well with the Equestrian and Bocce events and, his pride of being a member of ENMRSH.
Gilbert was also known for his ability to achieve his independent living skills quickly so that he moved out the Group Home shortly after arriving in Clovis to independent life. He had a strong work ethic and was extremely happy when he was able to begin ownership of his home a couple of years ago.
Gilbert will be greatly missed by his family, the employees at ENMRSH, everyone that had contact with him at the CAFB Dining Hall, and many others within the community at Clovis.
Gilbert would most likely prefer that his legacy be that everyone appreciate the many gifts and talents we all have including those with disabilities and his memory to be kinder to each other.
A Communion Service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Mike Nagro, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with Dan Kinkade, Daniel Harquess, Wil Isidore, Ricky Sain, Sammy Herrera, and Gary Jones serving as Pallbearers.
