Hazel Brumbelow

Hazel Bernice Brumbelow, age 95, of Clovis, New Mexico passed away on June 17, 2013 at Wheatfields Senior Living Community in Clovis, New Mexico.

Hazel was born on April 6, 1918 to Robert and Ruth Holmes Powell in Hickory Valley, Tennessee. She attended school in the family home through grade school. She graduated from Grand Junction Tennessee High School and attended Blue Mountain College for two years. She then taught school at Hornsby Tennessee where she met her future husband Fred Brumbelow. They were married on May 1, 1943 in Ashland, Mississippi. Hazel played the piano at her home church in Tennessee until she moved to New Mexico. She received her degree from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee and received her Masters Degree from ENMU. Hazel loved teaching school and taught in Clovis for twentytwo years. Hazel was a member of Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis, NM and served as a teacher at church. She loved playing the piano, taking art classes, cooking and playing bridge.

Hazel is survived by her husband: Fred Brumbelow, of the home two sons: Fred Wendy Brumbelow, Jr. of Odessa, TX and Robert Michael Brumbelow of Clovis, New Mexico two granddaughters: Andrea Allen of Odessa, Texas and Dianna Brumbelow of Clovis, New Mexico four great grandchildren and one brother: Billy Jane Powell of Hickory Valley, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Ruth Holmes Powell, one granddaughter: Kelly Brumbelow, two brothers and one sister.

Graveside services are at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, New Mexico with Pastor Bruce Kirby officiating.
