Henry Bruner

July 21, 1936 — August 25, 2017

Hank Bruner (81) was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Henry Bruner Sr. and Violette (Latimer) Bruner in 1936, and passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones on August 25, 2017.

He is survived by his loving long-time companion, Angel Certa, his two devoted daughters, Yvonne Bruner and Pat Davis, his son-in-law Jim Davis, and his two grandchildren Ashley Davis and Jordan Davis. He is also survived by his former wife Hannalore Bruner, devoted step-daughter Krissy Carter (spouse Kelly), and grandchildren Chelsey Jorde and Evie Fisher. He is also survived by his brothers, George Bruner and Jim Gilpin, his sister Pam Durbin and his Aunt Francis.

He was preceded in death by his wife Edith "Dee" (nee Meckel) Bruner, as well as his mother, father, and brother David Bruner.

Hank loved motorcycles, cars, and rockets. After joining the Air Force, he was thrilled to work for NASA on the Gemini Project, fixing and fueling Titan rockets, and rubbing shoulders with the astronauts. It was in the Air Force that he met his wife, Dee, and after a whirlwind romance lasting three months, they were happily married until her passing, 36 years later.

After retiring from the military, he worked another 20 years for Sears, before opening his own TV repair shop. Hank loved tinkering with and fixing TVs, but he was happiest when he was advising and helping people, and that led him to his final career - as a Golden Mentor for the State of New Mexico. He helped people attain their GEDs, get into college, win scholarships, and obtain good jobs. He always found something to say to encourage people to better themselves, even into his last days.

He retained his great sense of humor until the very end. At the rehab center, upon his first time getting a shower with assistance from the nurse, he exclaimed, "What kind of hotel is this? I have NEVER had service like this before!"

While we will all miss him terribly, we are comforted knowing he is no longer suffering, and is with his loved ones in heaven.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 23, at 4pm at the Steed-Todd Funeral Home, 800 East Manana Blvd. Clovis, NM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation in Hanks name to a charitable organization providing food to those in need.
