Howard A. Cox, age 90 of Clovis, NM passed away on June 3, 2014 in Clovis, NM.

Howard was born on August 17, 1923 in Clovis, NM to Abraham Lincoln Cox, Jr. and Hilda Julyan Cox. He was orphaned at age 2 years and was raised by his paternal grandmother Nelia Triplett Cox, also known as Mama Cox. Howard was an only child and had many cousins and friends. He spent many summers with his maternal grandmother Helen Barwick Johnson in Nebraska. Howard spent two and onehalf years in the United States Army stationed in Japan and the Philippines. He also served in WWII. He met the love of his life Eula Hopingardner, a RN in Clovis. They were married on December 16, 1947in Bovina, TX. They were blessed with three daughters: Janet, Barbara and Debbie. He worked at Humphrey Dairy and retired from the US Post Office after thirty years of service. Howard was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church.

Howard is survived by three daughters: Janet Burkett of Austin, TX, Barbara Cox and Debbie Cox Green Darrel, all of Clovis, NM two granddaughters: Michelle Ascerno Vince of Kyle, TX and Ellen Jones Lee of Raleigh, NC one grandson: Darren Ray Green of Clovis, NM two great grandsons: Jason Ascerno and Conner Ascerno, both of Kyle, TX and one great granddaughter: Alexandra Smith of Raleigh, NC. Howard was lovingly called Sugar Pops Grandpa by his great grandson.

He is preceded in death by his mother Hilda Julyan Cox and his father Abraham Lincoln Cox, Jr and his wife Eula Wyvone Cox.

Funeral services are at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at SteedTodd Funeral Home Chapel in Clovis with Glenda Horner officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis. Pallbearers are Darren Ray Green, Sammy Humphrey, Mike Grube, Riley White, Lindy Stansell and Max Stansell. Honorary pallbearers are Howards friends and family and J.W. Willis and Daniel Lamb.
