Hurshel Harding

Hurshel Rudolph Harding, 76, died Saturday, Feb 25, 2006 in Taylor County, Texas. He was born Oct. 22, 1929, south of Texico to R. Nath and Ethel Harding. He graduated from Farwell High School in 1947. He attended Texas Tech for three years, where he was a member of Saddle Tramps, then obtained a law degree in 1954 from Baylor University School of Law. At Baylor he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity, ROTC and was Comments editor for the Baylor Law Review. In May 1954, he entered the U.S. Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and served as a legal officer in the Judge Advocate General Core. He married Joyce Yvonne Hart of Portales on Nov. 10, 1954. In 1957, he became a senior member of the law firm Aldridge, Harding, Aycock Actkinson. He served as county attorney of Parmer County for more than 17 years. He and his wife were members of Central Christian Church in Clovis. He was a member of North Ridge Baptist Church in Brownwood, Texas. brbrHe was a 50-year member of , the Muleshoe Masonic Lodge, past president of the Texico-Farwell Lions Club and Farwell Chamber of Commerce, served as a director of the Char-Swiss Cattle Breeders Association and a member of the Baylor Bear Foundation.brbrHe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers, J.D. and Warren G. Harding.brbrHe is survived by a daughter, Deborah J. Penner and husband, Kevin of Lubbock; a son, David R. Harding Carrie of Brownwood, Texas; two grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Harding, and a brother, Nathan Harding of Odessa, Texas.brbrServices will be held Thursday at the Steed-Todd Chapel. Pastor Kyle Medlock will officiate services. Burial will be at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell. Pallbearers are Nathan, James and Derry Harding, Melvin Burns, Ronald Byrd and Leon Meeks.brbrThe family suggests memorials be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch or Baylor University School of Law.brbrArrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home.br
