Imagene House

Imagene Matlock House went to be with her Lord on February 21, 2018. This remarkable woman was born Feburary 6, 1921 to James Horton and Edith Almena Olson Matlock in Clovis, NM. The family lived and farmed in the Ranchvale Community. Imagene attended Ranchvale Schools through her sophomore year. At that time Imagene moved to Clovis to live with her older sister, Thelma, so she could take shorthand and typing at Clovis High School and work at F. W. Woolworth and Montgomery Ward. During this time, Thelma gave Imagene advice that she would carry through the rest of her life- "Always be busy. If you don't have anything to do, find something."
Upon graduation, she attended Draughn Business College in Lubbock, Texas, where she studied business-related courses. After graduation in 1941, she took and passed the Civil Service test. On her application, Imagene had agreed to move to anywhere in the United States for work. A job offer came from the Department of the Interior, the Bituminous Coal Division, in Washington, D.C. Imagene traveled to Washington, D.C by train with her sisters, Thelma and Joyce. The two left Joyce in Kansas City, MO, where Joyce had obtained a job. Imagene remained in Washington, D.C. for a year until she received a letter with an ultimatum from her boyfriend regarding his proposal of marriage.
On March 6, 1943, she married Clelley "C.A." House. The couple lived in Clovis where Imagene worked at the Santa Fe Railroad and Clelley for John Garrett, a local farmer, and later, as a cattle truck driver. Upon the death of Imagene's dad, the couple and daughter, Clella Jean, moved to the Matlock home place at Ranchvale where they farmed. In 1949, twin daughters, Donita and Janita, arrived. The twins were born prematurely, and Donita did not survive.
Imagene was always available to drive a tractor or truck to help her husband with the farming. Then in 1958, Imagene returned to work at Cannon Air Force Base as a civilian. Her first position was in Medical Supply where she was responsible for ordering all the drugs and equipment needed for the hospital. Later she transferred to Procurement, ordering supplies for the entire base using one of the first punch card computers. Imagene retired from Cannon in 1980. At that time, she and C.A. moved to Clovis. With the help of Imagene's brother, Damon, she and C.A. built their home from the ground up and where they remained for the next 35 years.
During their retirement years, C.A. and Imagene enjoyed being members of and traveling with the GoGo Sams and salmon fishing at Navajo Lake, NM. Imagene spent her time immersed in oil painting, ceramics, exercise, and learning everything about healthy living from juicing to vitamins. She shared her passion for healthy living with anyone that she met so that he or she could feel better, look better, and live longer all the while sharing Jesus and scriptures.
Imagene was a lifelong Christian. She loved the Lord and shared His goodness with her family and friend through the teaching of God's word. She was a member of the Ranchvale Baptist Church, Parkland Baptist Church, and Central Baptist Church since 2014.
Imagene is survived by a sister, Joyce Santi, of Clovis, daughters, Janita Stanfield of Amarillo and Jeanie Stone of Clovis; grandchildren, Wayne (Laura) Harpold of Kansas City, MO, William (Lorna) Harpold of Clovis, Waylon (Lashona) Harpold of Clovis, Mandy (Kelby) Cowley of Amarillo, and Neal (Ginger) Stanfield of Waco; great-grandchildren, Trystan and Seth Harpold, Caxton and Breyer Harpold, Sunny, Jake, and Makenna Cowley, and Gentry and Parker Stanfield. Imagene was preceded in death by her husband, C.A. House, brothers, Albert and Damon Matlock, sisters, Thelma Thomas and Martha "Tootsie" Eaton, a daughter, Donita, and a son-in-law, Eddie Stanfield.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, 1:00pm, at Central Baptist Church with Michael Kirby and Doug Brooks, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Garden Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Wayne Harpold, William Harpold, Waylon Harpold, Kelby Cowley, Neal Stanfield, Trystan Harpold, Seth Harpold, Caxton Harpold, Breyer Harpold, Jake Cowley, and Parker Stanfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Texas Children's Hospital Cardiology Department (Houston, TX).
