J Johnson

December 16, 1918 — July 26, 2009


J.E. Johnson age 90 of Clovis, New Mexico passed away July 26, 2009 in Clovis. He was born December 16, 1918 South of Portales, New Mexico. He went to school in Portales and was an excellent football player in the 1930s. He went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad after High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in WWII. After the war he returned to work for the Railroad and established his home in Clovis. He retired from the Railroad after 34 years of service and started his passion of buying and selling land in the real estate market. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge in Clovis and enjoyed watching the prosperity of growth Clovis has achieved. He was a member of Parkland Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Betty Johnson of the home in Clovis; one daughter Petra Candrell of Las Vegas, Nevada; and two grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Services will be Friday, July 31, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Steed-Todd Chapel with Skip Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis. Pallbearers will be Jim Burrows, Max Burrows, Ron Scarpa, Elwyn Crume and Jerry Crook. Memorial contributions can be made to Vista Care Hospice 2708 N. Prince in Clovis.
