J. LeRoy Miller, 86, a resident of Corpus Christi, Texas since 1992 died on Sept. 4, 2006 at Bay Area-Corpus Christi Medical Center. He was born in Tucumcari, New Mexico in 1920 to L. C. and Claudia Miller. Mr. Miller graduated from New Mexico AM College in 1942 with a degree in Agriculture and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation. He married Sybeline Jones, his wife of 44 years, in August of 1942 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He served with the 45th
ision, 179th Infantry participating in the invasions of Anzio Beachhead and southern France and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict and retired from the Army reserves in 1980. He was employed by the Farmers Home Administration for 32 years and served as County and Area Supervisors in Deming, Los Lunas, Clovis, Lovington and Springer New Mexico offices. In 1988, Mr. Miller married Mildred Madery of Clovis, New Mexico. They moved to the Corpus Christi area in 1992.
Mr. Miller is preceded in death by his parents; Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Miller Sr.; his wives, Sybeline Jones Miller and Mildred Madery Miller; 4 sisters, Esther McCarty, Thelma Mackey, Merlyn Brown and Virginia Wallace; three brothers, LC Miller Jr., Richard Miller, and David Miller and two grandchildren, Sarah Ann Green and Zachery Wayne Green.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Carr Miller of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Roberta Galton of Tucson, Arizona, Grace Woolsey of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Flora Dell Streety of Mesa, Arizona; one brother, Johnny Miller and his wife Arlone of Alamogordo, NM; and a sister-in-law, Wilma Miller of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two daughters, Sharolyn Linton and her husband Tom of Corpus Christi, Tx and Susan Green and her husband Floyd of Lockhart,Tx; 4 grandchildren, Richard Linton and his wife Karen of San Diego, CA, Michael Linton and his wife Cecilia of Wimberley, Tx., Julie Green of Niederwald, Tx. and Jacob Green of Kaneohe Bay, HA; and 5 great grandchildren, Abbey and Audrey Linton of San Diego, CA and Olivia, James and Robert Linton of Wimberley, Tx.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
