Jack Donald Egerton, Sr., 76, of Clovis, New Mexico, was born on October 17, 1933, in Childress, Texas to Simon and Ruby Pirtle Egerton. He died on February 6, 2010, at the Retirement Ranch in Clovis, New Mexico.
Jack grew up on his Grandfather Pop Prices farm. Very hardworking and inventive, he often put parts together to make something work. Even back then he had a rebelliouscantankerous attitude with many wonderful stories to getting caught doing little pranks.
In 1952, he joined the navy. He was a steel worker by trade, he went into the Navy Seabees Construction Battalion CBs. He served our country in the Korean War as well as Vietnam. He loyally dedicated 27 years of his life to our country. Jack was instrumental in changing CB Safety Training to OSHA standard. He cowrote the Steel Worker instruction manual that Seabees were trained by. He retired from the Navy Seabees as Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of Military Order of the Cooties AHO5, life member VFW Post 3015, Masonic Lodge Amori 10 in Misawa, Japan, Scottish Rite in Tokoyo, Japan, and Fleet Reserve Association.
On April 14, 1967, he married his beloved wife, Sarah Josephine in Amarillo, Texas. They were married 43 years.
He is survived by 1 daughter, Susie Lonsinger Robert of Clovis 1 son Cecil Egerton of Clovis 2 granddaughters Zoey Egerton and Hope Egerton 1 brother, Lonnie Egerton of Roanoke, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Simon and Ruby Egerton and his wife, Sarah Egerton.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be rendered by the U. S. Navy Honor Guard.
