James Oscar Brooks Jr., 61, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009. He was born December 17, 1947 in Lamesa, Texas to James Lavaughn Glaze Brooks.
He grew up in Hart, Texas. He moved to Clovis in 1966 and graduated from Clovis High School in 1966. He married Ramona Purcell December 14, 1969 in Clovis. They would have celebrated 40 years in December. He was a farmer all his life and was co-owner of Clovis Machine Manufacturing. He was a member of Curry County Farm Bureau and served as director on the New Mexico State Farm Bureau Board. He was a previous supervisor for the Central Curry Soil Water Conservation District and had been a Boy Scout leader for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona Brooks of the home in Clovis; 2 sons, Jeff Brooks Stacy of Clovis and T. J. Brooks Kirsten of McKinney, Texas; 1 daughter, Jen Gutierrez Art of Pflugerville, Texas; 7 grandchildren, Kylee, Kabel and Kannon Brooks, Jaron and Hannah Brooks and Julia and Lauren Gutierrez; 1 sister, Lawanda Wilson Glenn of Amarillo, Texas and 3 brothers, Wilburn Brooks Stephenie, Stanley Brooks Billie Elgin Brooks Georgia all of Clovis; his dad, James Oscar Brooks Sr. and step-mother, Melva of Clovis. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2009, at Central Baptist Church with Pastor Alan McAlister officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Casket bearers will be Steve Myrick, Del Graf, Buddy Hughes, Lance Starbuck, Kevin Merritt and Steve Reeves. Honorary casket bearers will be Sonny Moore, David Smith, Jim Cowman, Pat Woods and members of the Curry County Farm Bureau Board and State Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
