James Brooks, Sr.

James (Jim) Oscar Brooks, Sr, 99, of Clovis, NM, passed away March 31, 2015.

The family will receive visitors at 9:45AM until 11:00AM, Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Steed Todd. The service will be at 11:00AM, Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Steed Todd Chapel with John Tanner officiating. Interment will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

Jim was born March 8, 1916 to Harmon and Ruth Brooks in Hope, Arkansas. He attended McCarty School. He married LaVaughn Glaze in 1939. He married Doris Thompson in 1980. Later he married Melva Thrasher in 1997. Jim went through school in Lamesa, TX. Jim was a self-employed farmer his entire life. He was also a Mason, Deacon of Baptist Faith, a Boy Scout leader, a mentor of several young people and a Sunday school teacher.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father; one brother; two sisters; his first wife, Thelma LaVaughn; second wife, Doris Elizabeth; his love and companion Melva, and son, James Oscar Brooks, Jr.

James is survived by his children, LaWanda (Glenn) Wilson, Wilburn (Stephenie) Brooks, Stanley Brooks, Elgin Brooks; daughter-in-law, Ramona (Danny) Brija; his loving caretaker Roxanne, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grand children and one great-great grandchild.

Jim's grandsons will be the pallbearers, his granddaughters will be flower bearers and the honorary bearers are all close friends and family.
