James O. Jim Garrison age 83 died August 23, 2007 at Laurel Ridge Healthcare in Clovis, New Mexico.
Jim was born near San Jon, New Mexico May 6, 1924 to Lillie and Sidney Garrison. He was the youngest of five children. The family moved to Wheatland where Jim attended school. During World War II he joined the Navy and served as a Water Tender 2nd Class on the destroyer the USS Dewey under Admiral Hasley and was in numerous engagements in the South Pacific. He received several shrapnel wounds and received a medical discharge in March of 1945. He married Jackie Cantrell on May 23, 1955 in Bluff Dale, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clovis. Jim and his brother Lewis owned and operated the Silver Grill Restaurant and after it closed he sold insurance and eventually was district manager over New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona for the United Founders Insurance Company.
Jim had numerous hobbies each for a season of his life. He was a private pilot, a bowler, golfer, avid hunter and a fisherman. He raised and trained Brittney Spaniel birddogs.
He is survived by his wife Jackie of the home, a daughter Jamie Walker and her husband Jody, granddaughters Brooklyn and Brecka Moore all of Breckenridge, Texas. One son John Garrison of Lancaster, California, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Lewis Garrison, three sisters Margie Roundtree, Gertrude Read and Beatrice Holmes. One son Stephen Garrison and three infant grandsons.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 27, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Clovis with Dr. Joel Horne officiating. Burial will follow at the Grady Cemetery in Grady, New Mexico. Family will receive visitors Sunday, August 26, 2007 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Dennis Baker, Brooks Jennings, Marlon Inman, Lloyd Russell , Nelson Rutter, and Sanford Wagner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob White, Bob Ware, Marion Ware, Sam Duncan, Bob Jordan, Doc Lancaster, Bill Roberts, Jimmy Joiner, Carl Deaton and Lamb Mackechnie.
