James Henry Joiner, 95, passed away on April 9, 2016 in Clovis, NM.
A visitation will be held at Steed Todd Funeral Home on Thursday 14, 2016 from 5:00-7:00p.
The funeral service will be held at Steed Todd Chapel at 1:00p on Friday 15, 2016 with Sam Duncan officiating. A burial will follow at Lawn Haven.
James was born on June 28, 1920 in Hickman, Kentucky to Beatrice and Jewell Joiner. He moved to Clovis at the age of 8 and attended Clovis Schools and graduated from Clovis High School in 1938. After that he worked at JC Penny and Fox Drugs. Shortly before marrying his wife JoeAnn in 1941, he started working at Santa Fe Railroad as a switchman. Later working on the road as a brakeman and conductor, he retired in 1980 after 39 years.
James was a veteran of the US Army, serving in El Paso, TX and Korea during WWII. James and JoeAnn were active members of First Baptist Church of Clovis; he had been a member since the age of 17. They were avid bowlers on Santa Fe Railroad Leagues for many years. They were also active members of Good Samaritan Camping Club for over 15 years, both of them serving as officers in the organization.
James is preceded in death by his parents Jewell Joiner (1990) and Beatrice (2000), and his wife JoeAnn Joiner (2007).
James is survived by his daughter Sue Fischer of Joliet, Illinois and his son James Harold Joiner of Houston, Texas, grandsons Noel (Michelle) Kirsch of Wayne, PA and Lance (Kathryn) Kirsch of Chicago, IL, three great grandchildren, Ewan, Emma and Bobby Kirsch. He leaves behind best friends George and Betty Hicks and was blessed to have multitude of precious friends in and around Clovis.
James son and daughter would like to thank his two caregivers, Rocky Williams and Cruz Alambar for their loyal and dedicated care of their father in his last years. Also, the staffs of Plains Regional Hospital, ER and surgical departments for their loving care of James and the great supportive staff at Retirement Ranch for all their acts of kindness and care. Other valued persons are Iantha Hicks, who gave vital heath advice and counsel when needed, a greatly appreciated service to his children to his children living afar. Also Darry Roach for all of his works of wonder around the house, fixing things as needed, being a true caring person and checking on his often.
No flowers please, contributions may go to the First Baptist Church of Clovis.
