J .A. Mac McDaniel, 89, died Friday, December 16, 2005, at his home in Clovis. He was born June 17, 1916, in Forkville, Mississippi, to N eacie and Ben McDaniel. He attended Delta State University on a basketball scholarship and entered the Army as a lieutenant during World War II.brbrWhile stationed at Clovis Air Base, he married his college sweetheart, Eva Reese, in Amarillo, Texas, on February 5, 1944. After the war, he made Clovis his home and worked as a salesman at Montgomery Ward. In 1953 he began his own business, which has grown over the years with the Clovis area. He has served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist and then First Baptist Church, and is a member of Parkland Baptist Church. He has also been active over the years in numerous community organizations, including Rotarians, Elks, Masons, and Chamber of Commerce. He served on the originalbrCommittee of Fifty, and helped establish the Clovis YMCA Play, Inc and the United Way in Clovis. Mac loved Clovis and the people of Clovis and always wanted to help where he could.brbrHe was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl. Survivors include his wife, Eva of the home; his sons Jim Ruth, Mike Tish, and Pat, all of Clovis; and three grandchildren, Julie of Dallas, Texas, Ben Lauren of Clovis, and Sara of Lubbock, Texas.brbrDr. Herbert Bergstrom and Pastor Doug Brooks will officiate the ceremony, which will be held at Parkland Baptist Church, at 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 19, 2005. Burial will be at Mission Garden Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Burch, Nolan Craig, Dick Gressett, Paul Matherly, Eldon Smith, and Walter Smith.brbrMemorial contributions may be made to the Curry County United Way.brArrangements are by SteedTodd Funeral Home in Clovis.
