James Mcfarland, Jr.

James F. McFarland, 84, of Clovis, N.M., passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. He was born on July 17, 1927 in Clovis to James and Marie McFarland.

Freddy graduated from Clovis High School and went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. Then he left that job to serve in the United States Army in Hamburg, Germany in 1946 and 1947. It was a time when there was some hostility toward American soldiers. Yet Freddy felt those two years were the most interesting years of his life. When Freddy returned to Clovis, the Santa Fe Railroad rehired him and he worked for the railroad until he retired.

Freddy was an avid reader of western novels and detective magazines. He liked action movies and TV programs also. He was a very generous man, always willing to help anyone in need.

Freddy accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as a boy in the late 1930s. He was a member of Central Baptist Church for 74 years. He especially enjoyed being a member of Jack Donaheys Sunday School class. He enjoyed the Bible study and the friendship of the class members.

Surviving family members are a sister, Hywanah Russell a brotherinlaw, Dr. Ben L. Russell a nephew, Michael Rand Russell and cousins dear to his heart.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and a brother, Billy Collins McFarland.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2011 at SteedTodd Chapel with Rev. Dick Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Honorary casket bearers are Freddys Senior Mens Sunday School class.

Friends and family members are invivted to celebrate the life of James Frederick McFarland.
