James Porter

James William Porter, 87, died October 5, 2009, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born to J. C. Conway and Ethel Porter in Plainview, Texas August 2, 1922.

He attended New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe, New Mexico. During WWII he was a burner in the Richmond, California shipyards. He returned to Clovis, New Mexico and worked with his father on the farm and ranch. He also worked in construction and retired from the Maintenance Department of the Clovis Municipal Schools.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Clovis and was involved in the Deaf Sunday School Department. He married Neta May Leavett June 3, 1972, who preceded him in death in July 2004.

He is survived by sister, Audrey Banks and husband Jack of Lubbock and 4 step-sons, Joe Beakley and wife of Lubbock, Buddy Ray Beakley and wife of Apache Junction, Arizona, H. C. Boyd and wife of Longmont, Colorado and Larry Boyd and wife of Lubbock.
