James L. Sutton, 87, of Clovis died Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. He was born September 23, 1919 in Seymour, TX to Clem and Cordia Gunnels Sutton.
Mr. Sutton married Dorothy Hellums on June 24, 2000 in Roswell, NM. He was a life long resident of Clovis where he worked as a mechanic at Rierson Motors for over 30 years. After retirement he enjoyed life on the farm. Mr. Sutton served in the Navy, during WWII, on the U.S.S. Saratoga. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Portales, the Ranchvale 42 Club, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3015.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of the home; two daughters, Alice Money Jim of Alamogordo, and Paula Tjardes Steve of Clovis, NM; four grandchildren, Melissa Farmer George, Bob Money Kim, Kathy Hamilton, and Kristy Stahl Joddy; seven great grandchildren; seventeen step grandchildren; thirty-two step great-grandchildren; and one step great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years. Mary Maydelle; and five brothers and sisters.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Liberty Baptist Church in Portales, NM with Pastor Mark Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery in Portales, NM.
Casket Bearers will be Jack Gillean, Bob Money, George Farmer, Doyle Coffman, Red Nevins and Doug Reid. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Tommie Lewis, Joddy Stahl, Billy Hellums, James Hellums, Tom Hellums, Jerry Hellums, Curtis Hellums, Jason Hellums, Billy Don Price, and the Ranchvale 42 Club.
