James Walker

James Harold Walker was called home on November 6, 2013 at the age of 65.

He was born on June 15, 1948 to James Henry and Fannie Paxton Walker in Portales, NM. He grew up on the family farm outside of Rogers, NM where he attended Dora schools. He graduated from Dora High School in 1966. He served in the army for three years and was a Vietnam veteran. He attended Eastern New Mexico University where he became a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He received his bachelors degree in Industrial Education in 1974. While in school he worked on several construction jobs and decided to pursue a degree in Architecture at Texas Tech University. After completing his degree in 1980 he moved to Clovis, New Mexico and worked for several architectural firms in the area. In 1984 he began his career at Cannon Air Force Base in civil service working in the Architecture and Engineering Department. He retired as the chief engineer of the civil engineering department after 25 years of service. He then moved to the Dallas area in 2009 to start a job at the Department of Homeland Security where he worked until his full retirement in 2012.

Harold enjoyed working in his shop, spending time with his family, having coffee with his friends each morning, and spending time in the mountains. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, brother, cousin, and friend. He was selfless in nature and would do anything he could to help someone in need. His strong Christian faith and love for the Lord showed through his service to others.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Fannie Walker. He is survived by one son James Daniel Walker of Fort Worth, Texas and one daughter Laura Anne Walker of Hobbs, New Mexico. Also surviving are two sisters Peggy Roy Woodard of Clovis, NM and Barbara Bob Stapleton of Redmond, Oregon and two brothers, Jerry Kathy Walker of Azle, Texas, and David Rhonda Walker of Portales, NM as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Dora, NM on Monday, November 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Craig Smith officiating and Kelly Hartz assisting. Pallbearers will be Tim Farmer, Pat Burns, David Bailey, Barry Walker, Clayton Stallings and Don Porter. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy McDaniel, Chuck Hardisty, and Bobby Santillanes. Burial will follow at Long Cemetery in Dora, NM.
