J.D. Martin

Funeral for J. D. Martin, 82 of Lawton, Oklahoma, will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at the Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Clemmer, Elder of the Christian Center, officiating. Services in Clovis will be 2:00 Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Steed-Todd Chapel, Pastor Alan McAlister officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, New Mexico.

Honorary pallbearers will be Oran J. Autrey, Roy Hardegree, Caston Hardegree, Don Cross, Jerry Sparks, Bobby Light, Ricky Smith, Charles Manis, and Dwayne Garrett.

Mr. Martin died on Saturday, December 5, 2009, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was born on May 17, 1927, in Borger, Texas, to John S. and Olia Cox Martin. He moved to Portales, New Mexico, where he grew up and attended school. He joined the US Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 16, 1947. He married Lounita Lou Ballou in 1950 in Portales. He was a carpenter and truck driver. He lived in Clovis, New Mexico for many years and moved to Lawton in July of 2005.

He is survived by his former spouse, Lounita of Lawton, Oklahoma; his two sons, Stan Martin of Lakeland, Florida and Stacey Martin and his wife, Charlette Charlie, of Clovis, New Mexico; a daughter and her husband, Jan and Dennis Austin of Lawton, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren Seth Martin, Sy Martin, Amanda Polland, Sarah Martin and her husband Justin Stagner and Clint Austin and 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Earl, Lee, and Jess Martin and two sisters, Ethyl Partin and Juanita Morgan.
