Jerry Nash

December 11, 1935 — April 16, 2025

Jerry Duane Nash of Clovis, age 89, passed away at his home on April 16, 2025 after battling cancer for over four years. Jerry was born on December 11, 1935 in Morton TX to Leon and Mildred (Key} Nash.

After graduating from Floyd High School in 1953, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Economics from Eastern New Mexico University in 1961. He served in the National Guard from 1953 - 1962.

He married the love of his life, Carol White, on June 28, 1962 in San Jon NM. They were married for over 62 wonderful years. Jerry was a long-time member and supporter of Kingswood Methodist Church in Clovis, NM. His faith was strong and he loved his Kingswood family.

Jerry grew up on a small dairy farm and learned how to work hard at a very young age.

He could build, repair, or salvage just about anything. He had fond memories of frequent family reunions with his many cousins.

Jerry bought a diesel truck at age 20 and made many trips hauling grain to California and bringing produce back to Oklahoma or sometimes Kansas-in this way he paid for his college education. In 1961 he started Clovis Lumber Supply and used his truck to bring loads of lumber to Clovis from eastern Arizona. He estimated he sold enough lumber to build 300 houses while operating the lumber business from 1961 to 1964. In 1964 he bought the lumber yard property and transformed it into Western Mobile Home Park which he owned and operated for many years.

Jerry enjoyed RV travel and boating. He went on many trips all over the United States. His favorite destinations were Lake Powell in Arizona/Utah and Disneyland in California. Jerry loved to fly in airplanes large and small. He had a pilot's license and owned a Cessna 172 for several years. Another hobby was playing guitar-he and his small rock and roll band provided music for college dances and he enjoyed jam sessions at home with his brother and others in post-college years. Jerry loved adventures and fun: He hiked across the Grand Canyon (that's across-not just "into"-across), he toured seventeen European countries in six weeks with no tour guides, he learned to play a marimba, he was a connoisseur of classic movies, he rode roller coasters multiple times in a row, and he memorized a long Robert Service poem which he would recite for anyone willing to listen for ten minutes.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife Carol of the home, his daughter Dawn Witten (Mark) of Dallas TX, his grandchildren Jessie Witten and Cliff Witten, also of Dallas, his brother David Nash (Sherry} of Floyd NM, his sister Elaine Nash of Lakewood CO, his sister-in-law Judy White of San Jon NM, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Mildred (Key} Nash and his brother-in-law Gerald White.

The family extends thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Clovis Cancer Center and to the Plains Regional Hospice Staff.

A cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial donations to Kingswood Methodist Church (www.kingswoodclovis.com) or the American Cancer Society (1-800-227-2345).
