Jerry Owen

Jerry Dee Owen, 79, of Farwell TX, passed away in Farwell, on October 29, 2017.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 31st, from 2:00-9:00 pm CDT at Steed Todd Funeral Home in Clovis. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm CDT, Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Farwell. Bro. Russ Ponder will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Farwell Sunset Terrace Cemetery.
Jerry was born in Portales, NM, to Dee and Edwina (Burke) Owen on May 13, 1938. He married Pat (Sprowls) Owen on June 4th, 1961. Jerry and Pat had been high school sweethearts. Jerry graduated from Farwell in 1957 and attended Ft. Lewis Jr. College in Durango, CO on a football scholarship. In 1963, he graduated from West Texas State in Canyon, TX, with a BS degree and received his Masters of Education from ENMU, in 1978. After college, Jerry & Pat moved back to Farwell, where Jerry became a coach, biology, JH Science, Industrial Arts and Driver's Ed teacher. Jerry also drove a school bus for many years. Later, he served the school as their JH Principal, until his retirement after 39 years. He had many hobbies: refereeing, coaching Little League baseball, Little Dribblers basketball and raising registered pigs. He also taught a Sunday school class and sponsored a chapter of FCA at the HS.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pat; 2 sons - Mark and Melissa Owen of Ft. Worth, TX, Kevin and Sherilyn Owen of Canyon, TX; 6 grandchildren - Quay, Brynn, Jace & Tanner Owen of Canyon, Cade & Isley Owen of Ft. Worth, TX; 1 brother, Bill and Carolyn Owen of Salado, TX. Many nieces, nephews and cousins and family member, Angela Lias of Dunnellon, FL
