Jesse Brown

August 4, 1932 — July 12, 2015

Jesse Perry Brown, Jr., age 76, of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away on July 12th, 2015 in Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Mountain time on Saturday July 18th at the Steed-Todd Funeral Home located at 800 E. Manana, Clovis, New Mexico 88101.

Jesse was born in Belen, New Mexico to Jesse Perry Browne and Hattie Mae Griffin on August 4th, 1938. He gained his GED to join the Air Force in 1957. His first marriage was with Bertha Rhodes. He subsequently married Agnes Caldwell on November 27th, 1971 in Haughton, Louisiana. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and continued his career as an airlift/bombardment aircraft maintenance technician until he was honorably discharged with the rank of Tech Sergeant in 1979. During his service he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award with three Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters. He then worked at as a heavy equipment mechanic at Excel Corporation as well as A&M Building Systems until his retirement. He was a member of the High Plains Muzzle Loaders Club and the Eastern New Mexico Ham Radio Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his elder siblings Marvin Brown, Walter Jones, Edgar Oliver Brown, Robert Jones, and Thelma Jones.

Jesse is survived by his wife Agnes Brown; his children Jesse Brown III, William and his wife Tammy Caldwell, Eric and his wife Sonia Caldwell, Angela and her husband Benny Baca, and Aaron and his wife Midi Brown; his sister Juanita Anderson and her family; his grandchildren Roddy Caldwell, Carl Chenoweth, Brian Chenoweth, Alex Brown, Marissa Baca, Moises Baca, Christian Caldwell, and Adriane Caldwell; his sister-in-law Mary Workman and her family and his brother-in-law Charles Moore and his family, his first wife Bertha Rhodes Whitesell as well as his many friends he considered family.

In lieu of flowers, the family is setting up a fund at the New Mexico Bank & Trust and will donate any contributions to the Medical Center League House, www.leaguehouse.org.

The family of Jesse Brown wishes to extend our thanks to Dr. Martinez and staff at the Amarillo Heart Group who gave us three extra years with Jesse as well as the caring staff at the VA Hospital in Amarillo.
