Jessie "Kenneth" McMahan, 100, a longtime resident of Clovis, NM passed away to heaven peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 in Amarillo, Texas. He was born on July 29, 1918 in St. Vrain, NM to James Rufus and Alva Lillian (Hoppet) McMahan, of Madisonville, TX.
After graduating highschool, Kenneth was proud to serve our country in the military as a part of the US Army, 112th Cavalry and 56th Brigade. He was awarded a Bronze Star during this time for his efforts in the Army. After leaving the Armed Forces, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years as a cook until he retired.
Kenneth was a devoted member of Kingswood United Methodist Church and pursued his Christian faith daily. He loved his 5 great grandchildren Allison, Sara, and Brandon Whatley, as well as Kirstyn and Desiree Wulfman.
Kenneth is survived by his 2 grandchildren Chad (Cheryl) Whatley of Pea Ridge, Arkansas and Malissa Wulfman of Betonville, Arkansas; son-in-law Ed Whatley of Rogers, Arkansas and his 5 great-grandchildren.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, wife Velma, daughter Sharon Whatley; his brothers James Everett McMahan, Clifton Donald McMahan, and Carlton Eugene McMahan; sisters, Loma Evelyn McMahan, Bernice Cleo McMahan, and Blanche Lillian McMahan.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 10:00 am at Kingswood Methodist Church in Clovis, NM with Pastor Bill Case officiating. A public viewing and visitation with the family will begin at 9:00am. A brief graveside side service will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery, in Tulia TX immediately following.
