She was very active in sports, but her first love was music, where she very often sang in church for weddings and funerals. She and her sister Jo were Charter Members of the Melrose Assembly of Rainbow for Girls. She was a Past Worthy Advisor and also a member of the Grand Assembly of New Mexico. J. P. was a member of the Field Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Melrose. Jimmie married Robert Hancock in December 1955 becoming the wife of an Air Force fighter pilot, which took them to many locations in the states as well as several assignments overseas. She was active in POW-MIA activities during the Vietnam War. She continued to be an active member of the Officers Wives Club OWC after her husbands death in 1985 and later served as president of the retired OWC. Jimmie was on kidney dialysis before receiving a kidney transplant 18 years ago. She became active in the Kidney Support Group and led it for several years. She had been a resident of Hampton,brVirginia for 30 years at the time of her passing.br
