Joe Alvin King, 86, passed away on July 11, 2014 at the Farwell Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Clovis, New Mexico on September 9, 1927 to Henry and Leverta King.
Joe grew up in Canadian, Texas. He graduated from Canadian High School in 1944. After high school, he attended West Texas State in Canyon, Texas on a football scholarship. He was drafted into the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947. He returned to Clovis and began work as a paint contractor and farmer and retired in 1989.
Joe married JoAnn Snell on April 4, 1953 in Clovis, New Mexico. They were happily married for 45 years and together they raised four children. Their love and devotion to their family was their main priority. After JoAnns death he married Imogene Hubby May of 2000 in Clovis, New Mexico.
Joe enjoyed many activities with his family including boating, fishing, camping, and playing dominos and cards. He was very active with his grandchildren and enjoyed being present at all of their events.
He often could be found attending many sporting events and was able to offer words of instruction and encouragement. He was recognized by the Western Little League for his many years of service and coaching. His competitive spirit was also seen as he participated in the Domino 42 league for many years.
Joe is survived by his children Steve Donna King of Portales, New Mexico Margaret Larry Seefeld of Clovis, New Mexico Jim Jandee King of Arlington, Texas Patricia Cadigan of Tucson, Arizona six grandchildren, two great grandchildren brother Harvey Pam King of Morarity, New Mexico Lois Jack Lane of Houston, Texas Loretta Al Lawson of Huntsville, Texas. He is preceded in death by his first wife Margaret JoAnn Snell King and his parents.
Closed Casket Services for Joe Alvin King age 86 of Clovis, New Mexico are scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church with Alan McAlister officiating. Viewing will be at Steed Todd Funeral Home and from 9:00 to 9:45 am before the service at Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis. Pallbearers will be Caleb King Jason Seefeld, Brent Lane, Kris Morris, Sam Snell, and Clay Bracken. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew King, Stefanie Morris, Brittney King, and Jalissa King. Donations maybe made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank PRMC Hospital, Interim Homecare, and Farwell Care and Rehabilitation for your care during this time.
