John Cornell

John C. Cornell, 81, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at Vista Care-Carillon in Lubbock, Texas. He was born May 29, 1927, in Clovis to Gailon Dora Orr Cornell.

He graduated from House High School. He served on the USS Puget Sound during World War II. He married Jo Doyle January 10, 1948 in Portales, New Mexico. After serving in the Navy, he became a general contractor and built homes and businesses all over New Mexico. He had a private pilots license and flew to his projects all over the state. He loved animals. He was devoted to his dogs and until his health failed, he went on walks with them. He also loved to play dominoes. He was a member of the Associated General Contractors, the NRA and attended Central Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Cornell of the home in Clovis and two sons, Jeff Cornell Camille of Wagon Mound, New Mexico and Jay Cornell Alana of Lubbock and 3 grandchildren, Brooks Cornell, Emily Cornell and Nicole Cornell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Jerry Cornell and 1 sister, Ann Higgins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009, at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis with Pastor Alan McAlister officiating.
