John R. Hadley Jr. passed away Wednesday, morning, October 28, 2009 in Muleshoe, Texas. Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Texico, New Mexico on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. MDT. Interment will be at Texico Cemetery.
John was born December 12, 1917 in Pontiac, Illinois to John Raymond and Lucy Snodell Hadley. He had been a resident of Curry County since 1929. He graduated in 1935 from Texico High School. He married Evelyn North on June 16, 1940. They had 6 children. He was a member of Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Farwell.
He actively served his community by serving on the Texico School Board, Curry County Fair Board, he also served as chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service and as an active member of Curry County and New Mexico Farm Bureau. He was an avid supporter and member of Future Farmers of America and was the first New Mexico resident to receive the State Farmer Degree and the American Farmer Degree.
He is survived by his children, Jeanie Eddie B. Smith of Farwell, Linda Harrison of Clovis, Lou Ann Ray Larson of Brownfield, Texas and Richard Shawn Hadley of Texico. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elsie Hadley; brother-in-law, Stanley Utterback and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Raymond Hadley; a daughter, Gale Harrison; 1 great grandchild, Harrison Hadley; his brother, Walter Hadley and 2 sisters, Lucy Rohovec and Vivian Utterback.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the New Mexico State FFA Foundations, P. O. Box 30003 MSC FFA, Las Cruces, NM 88003.
Casket bearers will be Keith Hadley, James Hadley, Jay Harrison, Scott Harrison, Steve Smith and Kevin Larson. Honorary casket bearers will be all his friends and neighbors.
