John Schmitt

John Marvin Schmitt entered rest on May 26, 2012 at Clovis Health Care in Clovis, New Mexico. He was born on August 31, 1924 to John and Hedwig Schmitt in Dalton, Nebraska. He lived his entire life in the Cheyenne Co. area except for the last three years in New Mexico. He was a graduate of St. Patricks High School. Upon graduation he joined the Army serving in World War II in the European Theater and later in Japan. John was very proud to have served his country and he participated in many veteran affairs. He was employed by the Egging Cab Co for more than 25 years and also worked for a pipeline company in Sidney, Nebraska.

John was a member of St Patricks Church and in the past sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and in the past a member of the Fort Sidney Colonels. John always enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He liked to garden, bird watch, dance, play cards and he did crafts for gifts for his family.

He married Genevieve Hinrichs in 2001 and they enjoyed traveling and visiting places with American history. He is survived by his wife Genevieve, sisters Lucille Cummiskey of Worthington, Ohio, Sister Terence Schmitt of Louisville, KY, Clara Collet of Lafayette, LA. and brother Vincent and wife Marge of Sidney, Nebraska. Stepchildren Sandra Heaston Harry, Roger Marty Donna, Dianna Jeffries Clois and Robert Hinrichs Kathy and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Dalice, his parents, brothers: Leo, Walter Charles, Larry and Francis and a sister Bertha.

Cremation has taken place. Services will be Wednesday, June 6th at 10:00a.m. at St Patricks Church at 1039 14th Ave, Sidney Nebraska. Memorials may be made to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 381053678 or the Senior Citizen Resident Center 2210 Mabry Dr. Clovis, NM 88101, or the charity of your choice.
