John was born in Claude, NM on June 23, 1936 to Wray Wilson and Eva Maude (Wallace) Wilson. He attended Grady School in the first grade and then Clovis schools until the 10th grade. During his high school years, John delivered the Clovis News Journal while riding his Cushman scooter. After high school, he began working at his brother in law, Bob Johnson's farm and buying and selling vehicles with his father. During that time, he met Martha Loreta (Rita) Leatherwood. They were married on July 30, 1953 in Ft. Sumner, NM and made their home in Clovis, NM. From that union they had two children, Alan Dwayne Wilson and Sharon Lynn Wilson.
In 1955 he began working for the Clovis News Journal as a typesetter. In 1960, while working for the Journal, he worked nights at Bishop Printing to help out their heavy workload. He moved the family to Portales, NM in 1963 to begin work full-time at Bishop's as a Typesetter. In 1968, the family moved to Pueblo, CO and John began working for O'Brien Printing. In 1971, the family moved back to Portales and John returned back to Bishops. John and Rita divorced in 1971 and he later married Wanda Eakins in Clovis, NM in 1973 and was a Step-Father to Luther Eakins, Darynda (Jones), Randy Eakins, Quentin Eakins and Annette(Duarte). In 1984, he worked as the Assistant Director of the Eastern NM University Bookstore until his retirement in June 1998.
He loved buying, selling, and trading cars, attending and listening to local sports games with his best friend, Victor Dictson, riding his scooter around town and, most of all, being his daughter Sharon's biggest fan during her many singing performances in Portales, Clovis and the surrounding areas.
John is preceded in death by his father Wray Wilson, mother Eva Wilson, brother Arnold Wilson, son Alan Dwayne Wilson and former spouse Wanda Eakins.
