Johnny Jessie Chavez, age 63, of Clovis, NM went home to be with his Lord and Maker on January 10, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
Johnny was born in Clovis to Benito and Annie Chavez on November 6, 1952. He graduated from Clovis High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, after returning home, he married Ruby Duran in 1973.
Johnny was a loving and caring father. He was always very proud of his four children and grandchildren, as his whole life revolved around them. Johnny was very friendly and always had a smile and a joke for everyone.
Johnny will be remembered for his great generosity and friendly demeanor. He would often say, "Everywhere I go, I know somebody." He had no enemies and was loved and respected by everyone.
Johnny was a hardworking man, even up to being sick, he would often work with his son-in-law, Alfred. Johnny enjoyed doing yard work, (with his shirt off most times). He enjoyed traveling and visiting his family throughout the U.S. He also enjoyed dancing, listening to music and telling his grandchildren stories of his younger days growing up with his brothers.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Benito and Annie Chavez, brother Emilio Chavez, sister Martha Lopez, and nephews Gilbert "Gebo" Lopez and Mark "Magic" Moreno.
Survivors include his ex-wife Ruby Chavez and longtime friend Liz Silva, two daughters and two sons; Margaret (Alfred) of Clovis, children: Tim, Estevan, Diego, Gabriel Romero. Benito "BJ" and daughter Gabrielle Estrella Chavez of San Diego, California. Ruby (Michael) Houston of Clovis, children: Jalissa, Synia and Daniel Harrison. Johnny "JJ" (Latasha) Chavez of Clovis, children: Alyssa, Matthew, Elyjah, Kyng, & Efectivo Chavez. Brothers, Mike (Patsy) Chavez, Lorenzo Chavez; sisters, Joann Maes, Ida Carver and Gloria (Bert) Brinker.
Pallbearers will be, BJ, Chavez, JJ Chavez, Tim Chavez, Estevan Romero, Diego Romero, Gabriel Romero, Herman Chavez, & Arthur Rubio.
A Rosary will be held 7:30 p.m. - Wednesday, January 13, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. - Thursday, January 14, 2015 also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Fr. Edgar Sanchez, Celebrant.
We were blessed to have our dad for 63 years. He was our "helicopter dad" and he will be dearly missed.
