Johnny Wilburn Jacobs Jr. passed away on June 15, 2009 at his home in Clovis. He was born on February 20, 1933 in Snyder, Texas to Johnnie Wilburn Sr. and Lela Opal Hunnicutt Jacobs.
The family moved to Clovis in 1946 where he attended Clovis Schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy during his senior year at Clovis High on January 19, 1951 prior to his 18th birthday. He served aboard the USS Badoeng Strait during the Korean War as an Aviation Ordnance Man. After his discharge, he worked in the oil field industry where he met and married Gwendolyn Cecilia Matthews in Denver City, Texas on March 1, 1957. After transferring to Farmington, New Mexico and Fort Morgan, Colorado, the family returned to Clovis in 1960 and he began his life-long career selling cars at several dealerships in the Clovis area. He was a life time member of the VFW, American Legion and AmVets.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He is survived by his brother Jim Jacobs of Ranchvale, sons J.R. Teresa Jacobs, Don Debbie Jacobs of Clovis, daughter Shelia Jacobs of Clovis; grandchildren Abbye Neil Callender, John Kenda Jacobs, Brandon Zandi Jacobs, Katie Hagood, Jordan Jacobs, Adelina Jacobs; three great grandchildren, Toby, Caden and Madison Jacobs; his Lady Friend Ellen Hammack, extended family Tommie Kemp, Terri Charlie Adable and Kelli Jeff Kurtz, along with Ellen's three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Johnny will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 18 at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, with Pastor Eric C. Fields of First Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers are his grandsons John Jacobs, Brandon Jacobs, Jordan Jacobs, Neil Callender and his long-time friends Jim Hale, Jimmy Horton and Manny Torres.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the VA Hospitals in Albuquerque or Amarillo.
