Jose Joey Reyes Chavez, Jr, age 54 of Melrose, New Mexico passed away on February 12, 2013 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Jose was born on December 12, 1958 in Tucumcari, New Mexico to Jose Reyes and Rita Segura Chavez. He grew up in Clovis and graduated from Clovis High School in 1976. He attended the University of New Mexico for one year. He also attended Clovis Community College. Jose married Hannah Appelbaum on April 2, 1983 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Jose loved music and playing the guitar. He liked to travel and to spend time in the outdoors. Jose loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 25 and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Clovis.
Jose is survived by his wife, Hannah of the home two sons: Cipriano R. Chavez of Melrose, New Mexico and Domingo E. Lorraine Chavez of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina one brother: Don Toni Segura of Clovis, New Mexico two sisters: Eliza Joseph Puente and Josephine Chavez, all of Santa Fe, New Mexico God children: Jerri Chavez Romero of Tome, New Mexico, Antonio and Apollo Sena and Selestina Madrid of Clovis, New Mexico, Nickolas Davis of Ft. Sumner, New Mexico and Hailey Roybal of Melrose, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends at 3005 Vinton in Clovis, New Mexico. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at SteedTodd Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at SteedTodd Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Clovis, New Mexico with Father Fernando Saenz officiating. Lectors are Angel Huereca, Koenia Chavez and Marcella Roy. Burial will follow at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis, New Mexico. Pallbearers are Valentine Chavez, Phil Segura, Ernie Lucero, Solomon Sena, Esteban Aragon, Manuel Segura and Valentine Sena. A reception will be held at the Parrish Hall after the burial.
