Joseph Salvucci

Joseph D. Salvucci, 86, entered into the gates of Heaven on February 22, 2018. He was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, December 3, 1931 and graduated from Newton High School. He attended Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, and received a bachelor's degree in general business from the University of Tampa in 1964.

Joe was commissioned from the Aviation Cadets in 1953 and was a graduate of the Squadron Officers Course, Air Command and Staff College, NATO Defense College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

After completing flying instruction and combat crew training, Joe Salvucci served in Korea in 1954.

In 1955, Joe was assigned to Cannon Air Force Base as a flight commander and operations officer with the 428th Squadron. He served temporary duties in France, Turkey, and numerous temporary duties to the Pacific Air Force Theater.

In 1963 he became an instructor pilot at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, and Nellis Air Force Base, where he developed the F-4 Aircraft Fighter Weapons School.

In 1968 he was transferred to Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, as a flight commander. Joe completed his Southeast Asia tour with 322 combat missions, 68 of which were over North Vietnam.
Returning to the United States, Joe was assigned to the Tactical Air Command Headquarters in Langley, Virginia, followed by attendance and graduation from the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy, and assignment as Chief of the Tactical Evaluations Branch, 4th Allied Tactical Air Force, Ramstein Air Base, Germany.

In 1972, Joe was assigned to Nellis Air Force Base as the Commander of the USAF Tactical Fighter Weapons Center where he earned his promotion to Colonel in January 1973. Joe retired from the Air Force with numerous medals and awards in 1978.

Joe then worked at his second career for what was then known as Ford Aerospace and Communications, developing weapons systems for various military branches.

Upon retirement, he volunteered actively at the VFW, the local school district, professional golf tournaments and other sporting events. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren, traveling by motor home, cruising, and road trips.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Biago Salvucci and Katherine Reid Salvucci, his twin sister, Joan Hoover, and his spouse, Betty Salvucci; he is survived by daughters, Dina (Keith Logan) and Pamela Salvucci, and grandchildren Sarah Dallas (Peter) DeFord, KatieMichal Pullen, and Trevor Logan, numerous nieces and nephews and their progeny.
