Josie Paiz

Josie Paiz, age 84, of Dora, New Mexico passed away September 16, 2015 at her home.

Josie was born January 10, 1931 in Juan De Dios, New Mexico to Victor and Antonia Chavez (Cordova). She married Johnny Paiz on August 18, 1956 in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Josie was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She also loved and cared for many foster children. Josie was the proud owner of Josie's Café in Portales for 18 years and a gifted seamstress who loved to quilt and sew.

Josie is survived by her husband Johnny Paiz, daughter Kathy Paiz, two sons; Larry Paiz, and Pete (Mary) Paiz. One adopted son Richard Bennink, brother Cristobal Chavez, and sister Terry Paiz. Grandchildren: Jeremy Mobley, JD Mobley, Kody Paiz, Jewlie Kearns, Silver Melancon, Brandi Lovato, Sixto Paiz, Austin Pullen, Kyle Pullen, Tylor Pullen, Jaycee Pullen, and sixteen great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Victor Chavez and Antonia Cordova, one son Johnny Paiz Jr., brothers Doroteo Chavez, and Jose Inez Chavez, Juan Chavez, Alfonso Chavez, Santiago Chavez, Salomon Chavez, and Victor Chavez; three sisters Rita Salazar, Julia Salazar, and Eulalia Mirabal.

A rosary will be prayed for Josie at 7:00 p.m. - Sunday, September 20, 2015 at St. Helens Catholic Church in Portales, NM. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. - Monday, September 21, 2015 at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Portales, NM. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Dora, New Mexico. Pallbearers will be J.D. Mobley, Jeremy Mobley, Sixto Paiz, Kody Paiz, Joey Melancon, and Tylor Pullen. Honorary pallbearers are her Great Grandchildren, foster children, and all those that called her mom.
