Joyce Evrage

Joyce Imagene Jean Evrage was born April 8, 1941 in Portales, N. M. to the home of Amy and T. C. Vance. She passed from this life Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the age of 65.

Jean grew up in Portales where she graduated High School. She married James Ray Evragein 1960. She went back to Nursing School in Roswell, N. M. and earned her Registered Nurse degree in 1977. In October of 1978 Jean and her children moved back to Portales where she worked at Roosevelt General Hospital in various departments. Jean was very active in her nursing career, instructing many Lamaze Birthing classes along with other medical related classes. Jean later worked at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, N. M., Dr. Timmons office and then Portales Public Health before retiring in 2002.

Jean was a beautiful roller skater and a member of the RSROA for many years. Her hobbies included water skiing, bowling, dancing, shooting pool, crocheting, gardening, raising pigmy goats, manx cats, and she dearly loved her Harley Motorcycle.

Survivors include her mother, Amy Vance of Portales; a sister, Carol Martin of Odessa; her children, Linda Brown of Portales, Clifton Evrage and companion Shannon Holden of Portales, William Michele Evrage of Las Cruces; five grandchildren, Justin Brown of Portales, Brandon Brown of Carlsbad, Tommy Taylor Evrage of Las Cruces and LaNiece Horn of Portales; one great grandchild, Caden Brown of Carlsbad; two nephews Andrew Martin of Odessa and Tom Vance of Artesia. She was preceded in death by her father T.C. Vance and brother Billy Vance.

A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held Monday, January 29,2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church at 524 N. Globe in Portales.
