Kathryn Ann Curd was born to Walter Edwin Curd Sr. and Mary Louanna McMahan January 28, 1938 in Clovis, New Mexico. The Curd family made their home in nearby Texico where Kathryn attended school and was active in sports playing softball and basketball and was selected as a beauty queen on more than one occasion. The family faced difficult times with the loss of their father when Kathryn was a preteen. She did her part by working jobs at school cleaning floors and washing dishes and helped her mother clean homes. As a teenager she was able to work at Rose Drug in Farwell and described herself as a soda jerk. Marriage vows were exchanged with Rex Beardain December 29, 1953 in a small family wedding in Plainview Texas. Life together started in Clovis but in a short time they moved to the Beardain family farm in the Rhea Community north of Bovina, Texas. The family was an active part of the Bovina Church of Christ where Kathryn taught childrens bible classes and developed lifelong friendships with many of the church members. She was an old fashioned farmers wife and a lifepartner working in the fields while maintaining a large bountiful summer garden and orchard that she canned or preserved to feed the family throughout the year. When their farming careers ended in 1978, Rex and Kathryn moved backed to Clovis where she worked for the Clovis Schools helping provide transportation to special needs students until her retirement in 1998. Kathryn and Rex became a part of the 16th and Pile Church family where she again took an active role in educating children about the Bible. She was known for being exceptional wife, mother and caregiver that gave sacrificially of herself to support her family and friends. Her faith in God spurred her to a life unselfish love and devotion which left an indelible mark on those that knew her.
