Kippie Kip Duane Black age 52 of Melrose, NM passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM. He was born August 6, 1955 in Portales, NM to Thurston and Juanita Swopes Black. He married Becky Lambright December 12, 1975 in Melrose, NM. Kip was a lifetime resident of Melrose, NM where he was currently employed with the BNSF Railroad as a Conductor. Previously, he was a Firefighter with the Clovis Fire Department for 15 years. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the First Baptist Church in Melrose, NM.
He is survived by his wife Becky Black of Melrose, NM; two sons and their families; Jeremy Black, wife Jennifer and their son Tristan of Lefors, TX; Shaston Black and wife Natalie of Amarillo, TX; Father: Thurston Black of Florida; Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law: Dr. E.G. and Pat Lambright of Smyer, TX; two sisters: Junea Hickman of Melrose, NM; Elisa Spivey of Oregon; one brother: D.A. Black of Georgia; two sisters-in-law: Gwen Fleming and husband Randy of Lubbock, TX; Lynda Wattenbarger and husband Gary of Amarillo, TX; nieces and nephews: Michelle, Lela, Karee, Ashley, Carrie, Clayton, Lisha, Colynn, Brittney, Christopher, Aaron, Amy, and Becca.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Melrose with the Rev. Dick Ross officiating. Burial will follow at the Melrose Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jeremy Black, Shaston Black, Johnny Lay, Jim Lay, Johnny Beevers, D.A. Black, Gary Wattenbarger, Randy Fleming, Dr. E.G. Lambright and Don Gunn. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Clovis Fire Department, all his buddies at the BNSF and the Melrose Class of 1973.
