Later the family moved to a house behind the Ranchvale general store that his parents established. Pete spent his life farming in the Ranchvale community. He was active in Farm Bureau since 1946 and was elected President of the Curry County Farm Bureau in 1959. In 1962, he became a member of the state board and served as President of New Mexico Farm Bureau from 1978 to 1984. He attended numerous state and national conventions and made many trips on behalf of Farm Bureau to Santa Fe, Washington, D.C., and other places, including a trade mission to Japan. Pete and Pauline were honored as the Farm Bureau Family of the Year in 1986.

Other boards on which he served included the TexasNew Mexico Sugar Beet Growers Association, Farmers Electric Cooperative, Ranchvale School Board, Farmers Co-op Elevator, Ranchvale Methodist Church, and Kingswood Methodist Church. He also served on the REA National Committee and State ASCS Committee and the Clovis Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his four older siblings, Christine, Lorene, Verlon, and Loran.

He is survived by his younger sister, Viva Merle Davis of Clovis, and brother, Jack Davis and his wife, Bobbie of Roswell. He is also survived by his son, Kenneth Davis and daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Stout Davis of Clovis, and his daughter, Edith Irene, and son-in-law, Bob Jones of Bosque Farms, NM, and their daughters, Robbie Jones of Socorro, K.C. Jones of Ranchvale, and Bonnie Jones, a student at ENMU. Many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends will also miss Pete.
