LaVera D. (Gregory) Sours passed away on January 12, 2018 at Farwell Care and Rehab in Farwell, TX. LaVera was born in Beaver, OK to the home Delbert and Lela (Fry) Gregory on September 27, 1934.
Her family moved to Grady, NM where she spent most of her life, until her health failed, and she moved to Farwell Care and Rehab. LaVera was the fourth child of the family. Delbert Dee, Wilma Jean, Jerry Lee, LaVera Dean and Eddie Joe Gregory grew up on the farm and ranch. LaVera graduated from Grady High School in 1952 and was the valedictorian of her class.
She married James Sours on August 10, 1952. Their union produced four children: Jim, Jerry, Karla and Delbert. James and LaVera farmed and ranched together since 1961 in Grady. La Vera worked a short time as the School Secretary in Grady, NM and sometimes as a substitute, but primarily she was a stay at home mother and homemaker. She was very active in many community organizations. She was the secretary of Grady Cemetery, a member of Grady United Methodist Church and Grady Alpha Club. She loved visiting with people, oil painting, being with her family and watching all her grandchildren play sports (which she loved doing).
LaVera was a sweet wife, a wonderful mother, mother-in-law and Nano. She will be dearly missed.
Preceding her death are her parents; brothers, Delbert D Gregory, Jerry Lee Gregory, Eddie Joe Gregory. She is survived by her husband, James R. Sours of Grady NM; sons Jim L. (Shirley) Sours of Grady NM, Jerry D. (Judy) of Grady NM, Delbert R. (Bethany) Sours of Pleasant Hill; daughter, Karla (Gary) Malone of Grady NM; sister, Wilma (Gregory) Durrett; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00am, Monday, January 15, 2018 at Grady United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Grady Cemetery. Casket bearers are Jim Sours, Jerry Sours, Delbert Sours, Joe Sours, James Ryan Malone, Adam Malone, Gary Malone, Jett Sours and Steve Elliott. Honorary bearers are Jeff Queener, Brent Queener, Rick Queener, Mike Mackechnie, Tom Mackechnie, Steve Ray, Coletta (Queener) Ray, and all friends and relatives.
