Lee Hughes

Lee Roy Hughes, age 72, of Muleshoe, Texas, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at Covenant Specialty Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. He was born June 28, 1938 to A.D. and Fannie Hughes in Elida, New Mexico.

He grew up in Portales, New Mexico. He was married to Janie Mitchell, of House, New Mexico on April 2, 1961 and moved to Muleshoe, Texas in 1962. He worked for Fry and Cox for 38 years. He retired doing what he loved most, woodworking and building projects. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He lovingly devoted his life to family, friends, and neighbors.

He is survived by his wife, Janie daughter, Sandra and her husband Tim Kriegshauser of Clovis, New Mexico son, Dale Hughes of Lubbock, Texas granddaughter, Kyla Ellis of Lubbock, Texas sister, Sylvia and her husband Roy McCollum of Portales, New Mexico sisterinlaw, Maureen Hughes of Clovis, New Mexico brother, Lloyd and his wife Rita Hughes of Roswell, New Mexico and brother, Lawrence and his wife Sherry of Plainview, Texas. He was also survived by many loving sister and brother in laws through marriage to the Mitchell family. He had 33 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Eugene Hughes of Clovis, New Mexico.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Mountain time 2:00 p.m. Central time at House, New Mexico Cemetery on Friday, February 18 with Kenneth Whitecotton officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be John Harris, J.K. Adams, Lindel Terry, Ross Sinclair, Ronny Fouts, Paul Pointer, Larry Kirk, Ray Precure and Jerry Hutton.

Donations may be made to a personal favorite charity or to Buckner Childrens Home in Dallas, Texas, 5200 S. Buckner Blvd., Dallas, TX 75227.
