Leota Holmquest

Leota Holmquest, 90, of Clovis died Friday August 22, 2008 in Aurora, Colorado at Shalom Park Nursing Home where she had been residing since April. Leota was born December 20, 1917 in Domby, Oklahoma to Glenn W and Maude Drake. They moved to Clovis in 1936. Leota met Leland Holmquest while working at the Granada Hotel in Espanola, New Mexico. They moved to Clovis in 1942. Leota was your typical housewife until her husbands death in 1967 when she taught herself how to drive a car and supported herself by selling Avon. Leota became very passionate about painting. She taught painting classes at the Senior Citizen Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter Leola Wilkerson, son-in-law Doug Wilkerson, and one brother Keith Drake, sister-in-law Leona Drake. Three grandchildren, Brenda Hackbarth, Troy Wilkerson and L.C. Wilkerson; 5 great grandchildren; Austin and Carter Wilkerson, Lindsey Hackbarth, Seth and Aiden Wilkerson. She was preceded in death by her husband Leland Holmquest, a brother Henry Drake and sister Maeola Drake Bailey. The family will be at Steed Todd Funeral Home Friday August 29, 2008 from 4 to 6 p.m. Graveside services will be Saturday, August 30th at 11 a.m. at Lawn Haven Cemetery with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom officating.
