Leroy Lee Burgess age 79 of Clovis, New Mexico passed away Monday, April 7, 2008 at his home in Clovis. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 10:00 am at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Darwin Speicher officiating followed by military honors by the United States Marines Corp. He was born September 28, 1928 in Ringling, Oklahoma to Henry and Lela McCann Burgess. He joined the United States Marines in 1948 serving in the Korean conflict. After his discharged he married Geneva McCutcheon January 6, 1951 in Quartzite, Arizona. They lived in many places but spent most of the time together in Houston, Texas then in Eagle Mountain, California, and later moving to Clovis after the mine closed in California. When in Clovis he opened a gas station on 7th street then moving its location to 21st and Prince as the Texaco Station. He was a jack of all trades loving to fix most anything even trying his had at the restaurant business owning the Village Inn which is now Kripple Creek. Lee retired in 2000 after ending his careers with Red Rock Oil in Clovis. He also loved the outdoors, camping and fishing and was a member of the Sheriff Posse.
He is survived by his wife Geneva Burgess of the home; one son Dale Burgess of Clovis; one daughter Darla and husband Neil Lambert of Clovis; two sisters Loretta Joslin of Lufkin, Texas; Dorthie Swanzy of Colmesniel, Texas; one brother Harvie Don Burgess of Bullhead City, Arizona; three grandchildren Andrea Burgess of Portales, NM; Jeromy Baldridge of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Leland Burgess of Clovis, New Mexico; three great grandchildren Patrick Burgess, Thomas Martinez and Matthew Martinez all of Clovis. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
